ffmpegsumo licensing

Postby kowndinyav » Tue Aug 18, 2015 10:25 am

Hello,

We are planning to use CEF in one of applications and would like understand the licensing terms for ffmpegsumo binary. In one of the forum threads I read that it is a forked version of ffmpeg and does not contain any proprietary codecs.

- Does this mean - we can bundle/re-distribute the dll (ffmpegsumo.dll) in our application?
- Does this come under LGPL?
- Are there any more restrictions?
- Is there a place on CEF where we can find the licensing terms for ffmpegsumo ( not the about://credits in chrome, I guess this only talks abou ffmpeg )?

Thanks,
Kowndinya

ffmpegsumo.dll is the name of the ffmpeg shared library. The ffmpeg license is available here: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/code ... romium&l=1. It is also available via about:credits in CEF or Chrome. The default build is LGPL and does not contain proprietary codecs. You should consult a lawyer if you need interpretation of the license terms.

Thanks for the quick turn-around!

From this thread, I thought ffmpeg and ffmpegsumo - http://magpcss.org/ceforum/viewtopic.ph ... umo#p22935

So can I assume that what ever is available off the shelf is default build and we can re-destribute or is there a standard method that we can follow to validate this?

I took the binary redistributables from : http://www.magpcss.net/cef_downloads/ce ... _client.7z

Thanks in advance,

Everything included with the CEF binary distribution is generally considered safe for re-distribution.
