Can CEF 2704 still be built with some version of VS 2015?

Postby bruth » Fri Jul 08, 2016 10:04 am

I'm running into a linker error building CEF 2704 (Chrome 51) on Windows w/ VS 2015 Update 2, that apparently is fixed on master (Chrome 52), related to an unused ffmpeg symbol.

Code: Select all
ffmpeg.lib(ffmpeg.wavdec.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _ff_w64_guid_data

http://ffmpeg.org/pipermail/ffmpeg-deve ... 94142.html

https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/#/c/343398/4

What I'm not quite able to figure out is this - the referenced links seem to indicate that this is an issue that cropped up in a preview update of the VS linker, but I'm not using a preview version of VS 2015, as near as I can tell. VS 2015 Pro Update 2 has this error, as does Update 1.

Clearly, 2704 was successfully built at some point ... is it still possible to build it? If so, what version of VS 2015 Pro should I be attempting to use?

Thanks!

2704 branch builds for me using VS 2015 Update 2. Your links reference build errors with Update 3. Are you sure you're not building with Update 3?

Branch 2704 also builds fine for me on Windows.

Well, unless a different version of VS is somehow installing ... I don't know. Here's what it says I have:

VisualStudio2015Professional 14.0.24720.01

This is from chocolatey.

Google "14.0.24720.01" - this is Update 1.

Yeah, I had Update 2 before, then backed off to Update 1. Either way, the problem's only supposed to be in Update 3 ... ?

If the build requirements state Update 2 then what does it matter if it doesn't work with Update 1? Long as it works with Update 2?

Yeah, fair enough, it just didn't work with Update 2, so I backed off one to see if I got the same error or a different error.

I'm getting the same error when trying to compile with proprietary codec support for win32.
Update 3 for VS 2015 (Community Edition) also didn't help.
Should I try to skip this version?
