Enable to load NPAPI plugin in branch 3325

Postby shenhui » Mon Apr 23, 2018 1:15 am

Hi Guys,

I upgraded CEF from 1650 to 3325, but notice that the global NPAPI plugins cannot be loaded, I use the switch --plugin-policy=allow but seems has no effect.

Is there any way to load the plugins automatically ?

Thanks a lot.

As far as I know, NPAPI has been deprecated by Chromium, see https://www.chromium.org/developers/npapi-deprecation for more informations.
I don't know if you can use it with some special flags, you'll have to do some forum search on your own.

I believe the last branch to support NPAPI was 2357

It's not possible to run NPAPI plugins in newer versions as support was removed.

You need to use the pepper plugin instead. You can download/install it from Adobe and run with --enable-system-flash on Windows/macOS.

Also keep in mind that Google will be dropping Flash support completely at the end of 2020, so if you have a Flash plugin it's not too soon to start migrating it to HTML5.

Adobe themselves are putting Flash EOL at the end of 2020. So no more Flash in 1,5 years.
