I am looking for the Visual Studio/Windows SDK compatibility support matrix against the various cef branches. Is it documented somewhere? If I am right, the latest releases of CEF require Windows 8 SDK and Visual Studio 2010 to build.
But for instance what is the last version of CEF1 that I can build with Visual Studio 2008 and Windows 7.1 SDK?

You might consider installing the Win8 SDK, it should work with VS2008. There's a decent chance that 1271 and trunk will build with VS2008 and Win8 SDK even though it's not officially supported. Older branches should build with VS2008 and 7.1 SDK.
Make sure to install all patches and service packs for VS2008.
